Description

It is well known that this type of cross was given to the soldiers by the Tzars of Russia from the mid-1600s. The bail at the top of the cross has three rings which symbolize the Holy Trinity. It is a passion cross with the eight ended Golgotha cross and the spear and vinegar stick on the front. The monogram uPbC [King of Glory] is at the top. The monograms IC XC [Jesus Christ] are below that. Above the main cross beam are the monograms for “the sun hid its light and the moon turned into blood. Below the main cross beam are the monograms for “Before Thy cross we bow down O Master, and Thy Holy Resurrection we glorify” Adam’s skull is in the cave at the foot of the Golgotha cross. The back of the cross has the first verse of Psalm 68 “Let God arise, let His enemies be scattered, let those also that hate Him flee before Him. Circa 1600s
